Inner Peace Holistic Center

Who We Are

Our experience enables us to offer effective individualized evidence based care. We work with a number of mental health challenges and behaviors which no longer serve you, and provide safe ground to individuals, families, and couples. Our focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan. Our goal is to work with you and be of service as agreed upon. To help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.

This yoga is different. We work together one on one, but far from your average private lesson, our approach interrupts unsound patterns to unite body, mind and spirit. We take an honest look at your state of being, and apply the tools yoga provides to generate lasting change.

There is so much more to yoga than using the tools to become physically fit. When applied to an individual holistically, āsana / posture practice explores long held patterns of movement, and provides the opportunity to introduce healthier ones. Prānāyāma / breath work brings us into conscious connection with our nervous system to develop a calmer, clearer default state of being. Meditation, chanting, and visualization invite the natural intelligence of our human system to learn from the wider intelligence of the universe.

Yoga is ultimately about how we choose to live. Harnessing the power of our discipline with a daily practice opens a gateway to making conscious choices in every aspect of life. With more than a decade of teaching experience, I am committed to serving the highest good of each student as the grandfather of modern yoga instructed:

“Teach what is inside you. Not as it applies to you, to yourself, but as it applies to the other.”
– Śrī Tirumalai Krishnamacharya

Through various techniques to fortify the mind, body, and spirit, we learn to cooperate with our senses and our environment through the genius of nature who teaches us to live in harmonious rhythm. Everyone’s rhythm is unique, as is the path to discovering it, making an individualized approach ideal for those who wish to leave behind patterns of thought and behavior that have an ill effect on their health and well being.

During our sessions we craft a holistic, daily practice you commit to engaging at home. It is recommended that we see one another every other week for the first 3-4 sessions to ensure your practice is serving you well and make any necessary changes. Ongoing, one session per month is usually sufficient.

Bio:

Megan is a 700+ hour trained and certified yoga instructor. She has been practicing for just shy of 20 years and teaching since 2008.

The lineage she studies is that ofT Krishnamacharya and his son, TKV Desikachar. These teachers “pioneered the adaptation of yoga techniques for therapeutic intervention.” This method of individualization of practice informs every aspect of Megan’s teaching.

She completed her primary 200 hour, advanced 300 hour, and individualized 200 hour yoga trainings under Guta Hedewig, who operates The Yoga School NY. She has also completed The Heart of Yoga and Pilgrimage of Sound programs at The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India.

Megan thoughtfully plans each practice, nothing is done extraneously. She views teaching as a great honor and responsibility, and does her best to work with subtle efficiency. It is her intention to help you cultivate peace, stillness, fortitude, and integrity by providing you practical techniques for changing the way you feel.

Teens, Adults and Elders who are experiencing anything from life stressors, to complex and overlapping diagnoses, and who want evidence-based treatment in a relaxed and supportive environment are a great fit for me. Years of earning certifications in CBT-related modalities and serving Veterans at the VA has helped me craft a variety of tools to help most any situation.

Are you seeking support for a sensitive issue such as a personality disorder, combat trauma, OCD or just don’t feel like you are living the life you are meant to be? Please know I will be glad to hear from you and have confidence we can work toward wellness together

Using evidence-based treatments, I draw from CBT, ACT, DBT, YOGA and IFS. I also am particularly passionate about art therapy and animal assisted therapy. What this means for you is that I probably have a few ways to help you out, as not every treatment is right for every person. We can be flexible!

You are not broken or defective and I want to assist you in seeing the true you. I believe every single human is amazing and is truly meant to live in love, joy and peace as the primary state of being. If you are haunted by the past or worried about the future to the point it is pointing you to find answers and solutions, I would be honored to join you!

Online Counseling

JoAnn Portalupi, Yoga Teacher

and Ayurvedic Health Counselor

I have practiced yoga for over twenty years, teaching for the last four. My desire to teach comes out of the richness I experience from my own daily practice. I am a Yoga Alliance certified teacher. I have a 200 hour certificate from the Himalayan Yog Ashram in Rishikesh, India where I spent a 40 day residency. I also hold a 200-hour certification from The Hard & Soft Yoga Institute and am a certified Y12SR (Yoga of Twelve Step Recovery) Instructor.

Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, danced around the edges of my earliest experiences with yoga. During my residency in Rishikesh I experienced first-hand the physical, mental and spiritual effects of living an Ayurvedic life style. While working on my 500 hour yoga certification I took a detour into the Kripalu School of Ayurveda and completed a 650 hour course to become a certified Ayurveda Health Counselor.

As an Ayurveda health counselor I work with individuals interested taking a pro-active role with diet and life style in order to live a life of optimal health.

Melissa Young, LCMHC

I have been providing individual and family therapy/support since 2011. Areas of focus include anxiety, depression, trauma and eating disorders. I will use an array of CBT, DBT, Solution Focused and Motivational Interviewing approaches to meet my clients where they are at and support them with the changes they wish to see for themselves. I take a very laid back approach, and pride myself on providing a safe and comfortable space for my clients to identify and work towards their individual goals.
